Gloria Pizzilli

To express her style she is inspired by Oriental iconography,
in a fine balance of elegance and sensuality.

Bio

Since 2010 she has been working as a freelance designer, dividing her time between Italy and France.

She now lives in Toulouse, but her main inspiration since she was small has been the scents and flavours she encountered one summer many years ago in Puglia, when an elderly Indonesian relative came to live at her seaside home. It was through the discovery of so many exotic dishes that the Orient crept joyously and completely unexpectedly into her life.
When she is asked to give advice to an aspiring illustrator she is in no doubt: open up to others, let yourself be influenced, and allow yourself the privilege of being amazed at how much life has to offer us.

This is exactly how Gloria talks about her work: with an open heart.

In many of her illustrations human figures are entangled in sensual postures: bodies – mostly female – seem to envelop the viewer’s gaze like in an embrace.

Experience

Over the years she has designed for clients such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Wired Italia, GQ USA, La Stampa, L’Espresso, Éditions du Seuil and Mondadori.

She has won the Communication Arts Award of Excellence and Spectrum’s prestigious Year’s Best, along with the Merit Award at the 3X3 Illustration Professional Show. She was included in the Italian Illustrators Annual from 2012 to 2015.
